LAX to Start 24-Hour Noise Hot Line

Share

Los Angeles International Airport officials have set up a 24-hour telephone hot line to take complaints about jet noise from residents living around the airport.

People can call 64-NOISE to register complaints or ask questions, according to airport spokeswoman Nancy Niles. The phone will be answered by the airport’s community affairs staff.

Niles said that the airport had planned the hot line for some time and that its establishment is not linked to an expected increase in jet noise that will affect some people when the airport begins reconstructing one of its four runways next month.

Airport officials have said that some residents in El Segundo, Westchester and Playa del Rey will notice a temporary increase in jet noise because the runway being closed is one of two used for takeoffs. Hence, more jets will be taking off from the southern and northern outermost runways, which are closest to these communities.

Airport officials have urged the Federal Aviation Administration to schedule takeoffs on the remaining inside runway whenever possible.

Work on the runway is expected to begin sometime in February and last four months.
