Local News in Brief : Filing for Local Elections Opens

Filing has opened for elective offices in Palos Verdes Estates and Rolling Hills, where elections will be held on April 12.

Palos Verdes Estates voters will elect two council members and a treasurer, and Rolling Hills voters two council members.

There will be two open council seats in the Palos Verdes Estates election. One is vacant as a result of Barbara Culver's resignation last year to become city clerk, and Councilman Ronald Florance is not seeking reelection. Voters also will elect a city treasurer, and incumbent Hazel Elder, who has served since 1969, said she will run again.

Deadline for filing for the Palos Verdes Estates council is 5 p.m. Feb. 9 and for treasurer 5 p.m. Feb. 4.

In Rolling Hills, where two council members will be elected, incumbent Councilman Tom Heinsheimer, who has held office since 1972, said he will run again. Councilman Godfrey Pernell, the other incumbent, could not be reached about his intentions. Pernell has been on the council since 1975.

Filing closes in Rolling Hills at 5 p.m. Feb. 4.
