Trond Arne Bredesen of Norway, capitalizing on a strong performance in the ski jump, Sunday won a Nordic Combined men’s individual World Cup competition.

Bredesen only placed 12th in Sunday’s 15-kilometer cross country ski event, about 2 1/2 minutes behind the leader. But he had a strong advantage after finishing second in the ski jump competition on Saturday.

Andreas Schaad of Switzerland finished second overall, following a fourth place in the ski jumping and seventh place in the cross country.

Torbjoern Loekken of Norway, who won last week’s Nordic Combined in St. Moritz, finished third after a strong winning performance in the cross-country race. He finished in 40 minutes, 43.6 seconds. However, his 19th-place showing in the ski jump put him at a disadvantage.

Loekken’s good showing moved him into first place in the overall World Cup standings with 60 points, breaking a tie with Sulzenbacher, who has 56. Bredesen is third with 39.
