Local News in Brief : Security Guard Killed
An official of a security company that patrols a Carson condominium said he may seek authority to arm his guards after a weekend shooting that left one guard dead and another in critical condition.
“How else can you protect yourself . . . except if you have a gun and you can shoot them back,” said Saiuni Asham, manager of Prostaf Security Services. Guards in the past have been taunted in the playground, a hangout for drug users, Asham said.
Guard Sui Faatuaso, 20, of Long Beach died Saturday night at county Harbor-UCLA Medical Center after being shot about 10 p.m. by an unknown assailant in the playground at the 36-acre Scottsdale Townhouses development. Arona Sooialo, 25, of Compton was in stable condition after surgery for a gunshot wound to the face.
Investigators have yet to determine a motive for the shooting.
