Arafat in Athens to Meet Papandreou
Palestine Liberation Organization leader Yasser Arafat made a surprise visit to Greece on Tuesday for talks with Greek Prime Minister Andreas Papandreou, Athens radio reported.
The reason for Arafat’s visit was not immediately known, but diplomats in Athens said they believe he wanted to discuss the situation in Israel’s occupied territories, where at least 36 Palestinians have been killed in six weeks of violence.
Greece, the only European Communities member that does not have full diplomatic relations with Israel, recently condemned Israel for the expulsion of four Palestinians to Lebanon.
