Marina del Rey : Docks Damaged by Storm
One Marina del Rey dock was destroyed and several others were damaged during last weekend’s storm and high surf.
According to Los Angeles County officials, ocean surges destroyed one dock and damaged several others in Marina Harbor, one of the 18 privately owned marinas in Marina del Rey. An unofficial estimate put damages at $200,000, said a spokesman for the marina owner.
There was slight damage to docks at Fisherman’s Village and county-operated Chace Park, county officials said, and sections of the bike path were lost at Dockweiler and Venice beaches.
Despite reports last year of corrosion in some steel pins that hold the marina’s concrete breakwater in place, the sea wall withstood the heavy surf with no apparent damage.
