Weekend TV : Cerebral Palsy Telethon Tonight; Golden Globe Awards on Channel 9

Awards and good deeds will keep celebrities hopping across the small screen this weekend as both the Hollywood Foreign Press Assn. and the cable industry hand out their annual awards, while the United Cerebral Palsy telethon reaches out for a few million helping hands.

The 45th annual Golden Globe Awards, voted by local members of the foreign press, airs tonight at 9 on Channel 9. Dyan Cannon and Patrick Duffy will co-host the telecast, and the stars and creators of such films as “Broadcast News,” “Moonstruck,” “Hope and Glory,” “The Last Emperor” and “Nuts” should be on hand to collect their trophies.

On Sunday, Home Box Office will carry the ninth annual “ACE Awards” ceremony from the Wiltern Theatre at 9 p.m. John Larroquette of “Night Court” and comedian Elayne Boosler will emcee the program, which honors the best in cable programming during the past year.

And starting tonight at 10, Channel 11 will clear 20 hours of air time for the 37th annual telethon to raise money for the battle against cerebral palsy. John Ritter, Henry Winkler, Nancy Morgan, Nancy Dussault, Dennis James and Florence Henderson will host the marathon event from New York and Los Angeles.
