Greg Starkman of Beverly Hills, the reigning Southern California amateur golf champion, won the Dixie Amateur title at Key Biscayne, Fla.

Starkman, a former UCLA golfer representing Hillcrest Country Club, beat Todd Shore of Boca Raton, Fla., in the match-play final, 2 and 1. Earlier in the day, he had beaten Eric Rebman of Pensacola, Fla., in the semifinals, also 2 and 1. Rebman was runner-up in last year’s U.S. Amateur.
