END OF AN ERA: Back in 1946, before there were any local chapters of the National Audubon Society, a group of local bird watchers banded together as the Orange County Bird Club. Led initially by Santa Ana College ornithologist Earl Sanders, the group over the years went on local outings and took on a native re-vegetation project at Irvine Park. Last month, after 41 years together, the 15 remaining members decided to disband and bequeathed the rest of their funds to the local Sea & Sage Audubon Society.
