Chinese Urged to Contain Desire for ‘Dragon’ Babies

BEIJING — Chinese are being urged to break with ancient superstition and not rush to have babies in the lucky Year of the Dragon, which begins next month.
China Daily said on Friday that it was worrying for the country’s strict birth control policy that young couples were hurrying to marry in time to have a “dragon” baby, traditionally blessed with good luck and power in later life.
“It is false that those born in the dragon year are capable of extra intelligence. The good luck of the dragon year will not benefit an overpopulated nation,” the newspaper said.
