Kansas City to Face Florida State in First Spring Training Exhibition
The Kansas City Royals will play at Florida State University March 3 in the first spring training game of the season, highlighting five games on opening day.
Other exhibition openers in Florida will be Los Angeles against Japan’s Chunichi Dragons, Atlanta vs. the University of Georgia and Texas against Edison College. The Chicago Cubs start the exhibition season in Arizona against Mesa Community College.
The World Series champion Minnesota Twins open March 4 against Los Angeles.
Three teams will be playing in new Florida sites. Cincinnati, which had been in Tampa for 54 years, begins play in Plant City March 4 against Toronto.
The New York Mets, after 25 years in St. Petersburg, start in Port St. Lucie March 5 against Los Angeles. The Royals left Fort Myers after 18 years and open in their Baseball City complex, near Haines City, on March 4 against Houston.
The exhibition season ends April 3, one day before the regular season starts.
