- Deafened in a train accident at the age of 5, Bronislaw Machalski compensated for his lack of speech and hearing by developing his entire body as a method of communicating.
Using all his physical and mental resources, Machalski chose a career in classical ballet and mime with the Polish National Opera.
Sponsored by Carlsbad Cultural Arts, the internationally recognized mime artist, also called “Miko,” will hold several workshops in pantomime in Carlsbad this week. Machalski, who has lived in the United States since 1978, will give a one-man show at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the Cultural Arts Center, 3557 Monroe Street, Carlsbad. Tickets are $5; students and seniors, $3.
