Glenn E. Mon, the senior assistant general manager of the Coliseum, has been hired as stadium manager of the new Joe Robbie Stadium near Miami, effective March 1, it was announced Tuesday.

Mon, 36, has worked for the Coliseum and Sports Arena for the last 13 years and has been manager of the Sports Arena since 1984. He was the Coliseum’s public relations director for nine years.

Robbie, who financed and built his own 75,000-seat stadium after attempts to get municipal authorities to build a stadium foundered, said Tuesday that Mon was selected after a dozen candidates had been interviewed.

“I’m awfully excited about the opportunity,” said Mon, a native of Long Beach who has never lived in Florida. “It’s a marvelous facility. I’m going to miss the Coliseum and Sports Arena, but it’s a good career move for me.”

Mon was a candidate for Coliseum general manager when Jim Hardy, the longtime general manager, was retired. But the Coliseum Commission hired Joel Ralph away from Philadelphia’s Veterans and John F. Kennedy stadiums instead.

As manager of Joe Robbie stadium, Mon will be responsible for all aspects of administration and operations, including bookings, scheduling, staffing, operations, maintenance, security, concessions, ticketing and marketing.
