Local News in Brief : Law Grad Convicted
A UCLA Law School graduate was convicted Wednesday of three felony charges arising from a scheme in which his wife took the state Bar exam for him.
Morgan Lamb, 34, was found guilty by Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Judith Chirlin in a non-jury trial of one count of forgery and two counts of false impersonation. He faces up to four years in state prison when he is sentenced March 24, the district attorney’s office said.
Lamb’s wife, Laura Beth Lamb, 31, pleaded no contest to two felony charges in November, 1986, and was sentenced last March to three years’ probation, fined $2,500 and ordered to perform 200 hours of community service.
Laura Lamb was fired from her job with the Securities and Exchange Commission and is facing disbarment proceedings, Deputy Dist. Atty. Kirk Newkirk said.
Newkirk said the scheme was uncovered after the state Bar received an anonymous tip from someone who recognized Laura Lamb while they were both taking the exam in July, 1985.
Laura Lamb, who also graduated from UCLA Law School, scored third in a field of 7,000, the prosecutor said.
