A sheriff's deputy was accidentally shot and wounded by another deputy late Wednesday night as they responded to a report of shots being fired in East Los Angeles, fellow deputies reported.
"His vital signs are good," Deputy Detta Roberts said. The wounded deputy, who was not immediately identified pending notification of relatives, was taken to County-USC Medical Center with a shotgun wound in the lower abdomen.
"He was shot pretty good, but the word I have from paramedics at the scene is that he is going to make it (live)," Dan Ramirez, a county firefighter, said.
Details about the incident, in the 700 block of South Gage Avenue, were sketchy. A deputy at East Los Angeles Sheriff's Station said that a suspect had been taken into custody at the scene.
