Jeffrey Thomas Mizner was sentenced Thursday to 25 years to life in prison for the murder of Marine Staff Sgt. Carlo Troiani. Mizner was the fourth person to be sentenced for the Aug. 10, 1984, ambush slaying in Oceanside.
Mizner, 24, who was discharged from the Marine Corps after being arrested, had pleaded guilty to first-degree murder in exchange for prosecutors’ dropping a charge that could have lead to the death penalty.
Three other defendants, including Troiani’s wife, Laura, have already been sentenced in the murder. One defendant is awaiting sentencing, and another is set for trial.
Mizner, a native of Holt, Mich., was sentenced by Vista Superior Court Judge Gilbert Nares. A psychiatrist recommended that Mizner receive therapy while in prison.
