Barclay Plager, 46, a former defenseman and coach for the St. Louis Blues, is hospitalized in St. Louis with inoperable brain tumors. He has elected not to undergo further experimental treatments and not to rely on life-support systems.

Plager was twice St. Louis’ coach and has been an assistant coach since 1984. He spent his entire National Hockey League career with St. Louis after the Blues had entered the league as an expansion franchise in 1967.

He played in four All-Star games in nine years, scoring 44 goals and compiling 187 assists and 1,115 penalty minutes.
