A nine-day strike by San Francisco bus drivers has ended, but commuters’ success in using other means of transportation prompted officials to look into possibly scrapping the service. Drivers, who walked out Jan. 23 over wages and the use of part-time drivers, quickly ratified the pact. The Golden Gate Bridge District faces a projected $6.7-million budget deficit. District President Carol Ruth Silver said a committee will examine the possibility of ending the Golden Gate Transit system service, whose ridership runs 26,000 to 30,000 daily.
