Russell Sanders, 24, an ex-Marine from Michigan Center, Mich., was sentenced Wednesday to 25 years to life in prison for the murder of Staff Sgt. Carlo Troiani on Aug. 10, 1984.
Sanders is the fifth defendant in the ambush slaying, including Troiani’s wife, Laura, to be sentenced by Vista Superior Court Judge Gilbert Nares. Trial for a sixth defendant, Kevin Watkins, is set to begin Monday.
