Escaped Murderer Taken Alive Despite Death Vow

CHARLESTON, S.C. —
An escaped murderer who vowed never to be taken alive was recaptured Wednesday without a struggle, police said. Fred H. Kornahrens III, who escaped on Jan. 19, was taken to Central Correctional Institution in Columbia and returned to Death Row. He was convicted in the deaths of his ex-wife, her stepson and her father.
