The Israeli Davis Cup team, which faces Italy starting Friday, is being subjected to stringent security methods. Italian police are driving the team in armored cars from its hotel in Palermo, Sicily, to the Palermo Tennis Club.

“It’s not particularly pleasant to feel so restricted,” Israel’s non-playing captain, Joseph Stabholz, said, “but we’ve been told the measures are necessary and we are forced to live with them.”

The security apparently stems from Italy’s cordial ties to many of the Arab nations.
