Pacific Palisades : Beautification Plan Approved

Share

The Pacific Palisades Community Council decided last week to proceed with a beautification plan for the Swarthmore business district.

The plan to turn the one-block strip between Sunset Boulevard and Monument Street into a “pedestrian-friendly” area--featuring one-way traffic, wide sidewalk promenades and outdoor cafe tables--will be financed through a private corporation, said council President Joan Graves.

But boutique owner Judy Elliott said a group of merchants who consider the council unauthorized to decide the issue will continue its battle to restore two-way traffic on Swarthmore.

“We didn’t even get to present our case,” Elliott said after the meeting. “We were cut off summarily.” She said her group will circulate petitions against the plan and present them to Mayor Tom Bradley’s office.
