Here’s the weather forecast for the weekend: Sunny, then cloudy, then both.

The forecast for San Diego calls for sunshine today, partly cloudy skies Saturday, and morning cloudiness clearing to afternoon sunshine on Sunday, National Weather Service forecaster Wilbur Shigehara said.

A weak Santa Ana condition will peak today, resulting in sunny skies and warmer temperatures throughout the county, according to Shigehara.

The Santa Ana will also bring gusty winds to the mountains and deserts, he said, with winds up to 40 m.p.h. expected through this evening.

Wind Advisory in Effect

A wind advisory remains in effect for the mountain areas. Those driving trucks or other large vehicles should be aware that strong winds are expected throughout the day in those areas.

“The coastal and inland areas will be spared (the winds) for the most part,” Shigehara said. “We’ll be able to enjoy the sunshine and warm temperatures from the Santa Ana without having the winds.”

The high-pressure system responsible for the Santa Ana is also causing a storm currently 1,200 miles off the coast of San Diego to dissipate, according to Shigehara.

“This storm’s got a lot of clouds in it,” he said. “There’s no rain in it, but the clouds will be reaching us on Saturday.”

The clouds are expected to clear out by mid-morning Sunday, leaving a clear but cool afternoon to finish out the weekend, Shigehara said.

Cooling at Coast

“The coast, especially, will feel the cooling,” Shigehara said. “While temperatures in other areas will only creep down a couple of degrees, the coastal areas will experience a 10-degree drop over the weekend.”
