Charles L. Patrick, a San Diego County deputy district attorney, was named a Municipal Court judge for the San Diego Judicial District, Gov. George Deukmejian’s office said Thursday.

Patrick, 57, who has served as deputy district attorney since 1966, and is the assistant chief of the major violator unit, replaces Judge Charles R. Hayes, who has been elevated to the San Diego County Superior Court.

From 1964 to 1966, Patrick served as deputy district attorney in Santa Barbara County, and before that was partner of the Buena Park law firm of Fonte & Patrick.

Patrick, a member of the California District Attorneys Assn. and the San Diego County Bar Assn., earned a bachelor’s degree from UCLA in 1955 and a bachelor of law degree in 1963 from Southwestern University School of Law in Los Angeles.

The salary of Municipal Court judges is $77,409.
