Three federal drug agents were wounded and two suspects were killed and a third was critically wounded this afternoon in a shootout after a car was stopped, officials said.

U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration spokesman Roland Talton said the shootout that climaxed an undercover operation occurred at Monterey Road and Old Mill Road in San Marino. The exclusive neighborhood area was immediately sealed off by authorities after the 12:05 p.m. shootout. Fleeing suspects who survived the gunfire reportedly were arrested a short time later in Monterey Park by sheriff’s deputies.

A wounded suspect taken to Huntington Memorial Hospital in Pasadena was listed in critical condition. The three federal agents also taken to that hospital were in critical and serious condition, said spokeswoman Kay Murphy, who declined to provide additional details.
