Local News in Brief : 2 Tires Fall Off Axle of Truck, Kill Motorist
Two tires fell off the rear axle of a tractor-trailer tanker and crashed through a van’s windshield, killing a 39-year-old Mission Viejo man early Friday.
David Ervin Eastridge was declared dead at the scene, a coroner’s spokesman said.
The tanker was southbound on the Santa Ana Freeway near Sand Canyon Avenue at 5:50 a.m. when the pair of tires separated from the truck’s axle, the California Highway Patrol reported.
The tires hit a pickup behind the tanker before bouncing over the center median and striking Eastridge’s northbound van. No one in the pickup truck was injured, the CHP said.
The driver of the tanker truck was not cited but an investigation is continuing, the CHP said.
