Bending ‘Facts’ About Big Bend
Once again I have opened my newspaper and been confronted with yet another article on “the deadly Big Bend” of Laguna Canyon Road and, on reading further, was once again confronted with one distorted fact after another.
I have been a resident of Laguna Beach for 15 years and am well aware of the hazards of driving the canyon. However, my guard goes up, not in the Big Bend area, but much further out the canyon between El Toro Road and the 405 Freeway. This is the area that has claimed the most lives, not in Big Bend.
As for Larry Hunt Towing having a front row seat to the alleged vehicular carnage in Big Bend, that is yet another “big bend” in the facts. Hunt’s business is a good half a mile from Big Bend and faces on one of the straightest sections of the entire roadway.
If anyone hits the tree in front of his business, it’s because they have fallen asleep or are too intoxicated to drive in the first place.
