MORE ‘LOST IN L.A.’
Several times Arax states in so many words that the tragic odyssey suffered by Sang Nam Chinh and his accomplices is even more compelling than the death of LAPD officer Duane Johnson. He even states that what ultimately emerges from the Chinh trial is how misunderstood these refugees are. What a sympathetic story. A sorry childhood cannot be the excuse as to why Chinh had to resort to robbery and murder to support himself.
Everyone can play Monday-night quarterback as to what happened that day in the jewelry store, but no one will ever know what Officer Johnson thought or sensed.
During the Vietnam War, we worried over our oldest brother being killed, but he came back home. How sad that the Vietnamese came to America and murdered our youngest brother. The death penalty will not bring our brother back, but our parents, sisters and brothers (two of whom are policemen) all agree that this is the sentence we’d like to hear. Duane would have wanted that also. We still grieve.
