DGA Announces 1987 TV Award Nominees

Directors from episodes of ABC's "thirtysomething," CBS' "Cagney & Lacey" and NBC's "St. Elsewhere" were nominated for awards Monday by the Directors Guild of America in one of eight categories for 1987 television work.

The DGA's nominees for outstanding directorial achievement in a nighttime dramatic series were Marshall Herskovitz for the pilot episode of "thirtysomething," Sharron Miller for the "Turn, Turn, Turn, Pt. 1" episode of "Cagney & Lacey" and Mark C. Tinker for the "Weigh In, Weigh Out" installment of "St. Elsewhere."

The winners will be announced at the DGA's annual awards dinner March 12. Other nominees are:

Comedy Series: James Burrows, "Cheers," NBC; Terry Hughes, "The Golden Girls," NBC; Will MacKenzie, "Family Ties," NBC.

Dramatic Specials: Paul Bogart, "Nutcracker: Money, Madness, Murder," NBC; Marvin J. Chomsky, "Billionaire Boys Club," NBC; Jud Taylor, "Foxfire," CBS.

Daytime Dramatic Shows: Nell Cox, "Read Between the Lines," an "ABC Afterschool Special"; Victoria Hochberg, "Just a Regular Kid," an "ABC Afterschool Special"; Joanna Lee, "The Kid Who Wouldn't Quit--The Brad Silverman Story," an "ABC Afterschool Special."

Musical/Variety: Hal Gurnee, "Late Night's 5th Anniversary Show," NBC; Dwight Hemion, "Julie Andrews . . . Sound of Christmas," ABC; Don Mischer, "Made in USA With Mikhail Baryshnikov," PBS.

Documentary/Actuality: Elena Mannes, "The Kingdom Divided," PBS; John Peaslee and Judd Pillot, "How to Raise a Street Smart Child," HBO; Terry Sanders, "Slow Fires," PBS.

Sports: Robert A. Fishman, "NCAA Basketball Championship," CBS; Sandy Grossman, "1987 Super Bowl," CBS; Ted Nathanson, "1987 AFC Championship," NBC.
