An unidentified Latino man died Sunday night, shortly after being taken into custody by Border Patrol officers.
The man, who had been arrested on suspicion of entering the country illegally, collapsed shortly after his arrival at the Border Patrol detention center in San Ysidro, Border Patrol spokesman Gene Smithburg said.
The man was taken to Scripps Memorial Hospital at Chula Vista, where he was pronounced dead at 7:40 p.m., a little more than an hour after his arrest.
The coroner’s office said an autopsy is being performed.
