Veteran folksinger-guitarist Dave Van Ronk performs tonight at the Belly Up Tavern in Solana Beach. With his gruff yet tender singing style and extensive knowledge of the blues, Van Ronk was one of the most influential members of New York’s early 1960s folk community. For a while, he shared his Greenwich Village apartment with Bob Dylan.

After the folk boom went bust in the late 1960s, Van Ronk continued to perform around the country, and in 1974 he appeared with Dylan at a New York City benefit concert for Chilean political prisoners. Today, he divides his time between touring and teaching guitar.
