Community College Roundup : OCC Scores Early, Often in 29-2 Win

Mike Misuraca, Derick Dehdashtian and Denny Berni hit home runs in Orange Coast College’s 29-2 victory over Pasadena in a nonconference baseball game Tuesday at Orange Coast.

Dehdashtian hit a three-run home run in the fourth inning, Berni hit a three-run home run in the fifth and Misuraca hit a two-run home run in the seventh. It was Dehdashtian’s third home run of the season and the first for Misuraca and Berni.

J.J. Culpepper had 5 hits and 5 runs RBIs for OCC (4-1), which scored 10 runs in the first inning. OCC scored in all eight innings.

Ryan Thibault (1-0) pitched the first five innings for the victory.

In other nonconference baseball:

Fullerton 9, Saddleback 5--Fred Camerana had 3 hits and 2 RBIs, and Phil Diplock had 2 hits and 4 RBIs for Fullerton (1-0) at Saddleback. Saddleback committed 5 errors and allowed 11 walks.

Mark Kiefer (1-0), who gave up 3 runs and 4 hits and struck out 5 in six innings, got the win. Dean Martinez (0-1) gave up four runs and two hits.

In women’s nonconference softball:

Golden West 10, College of the Canyons 2--Kathy Ellis and Rita Hernandez had three hits and two RBIs each for visiting Golden West in the season opener for both teams. Jessica Duran pitched four innings for the victory and Jennifer Pattinson pitched the final three innings for the save.

In nonconference men’s volleyball:

Orange Coast 3, Genesee 0--Scott Burch had 11 kills, setter Jason Elder had 48 assists and Tim O’Neil had 9 kills and 4 blocks to lead OCC (5-1) to a 15-13, 15-13, 15-10 victory at OCC.
