Weyerhaeuser CEO to Become Chairman

George H. Weyerhaeuser, president and chief executive of Weyerhaeuser Co., will become chairman of the forest and paper products company on the retirement of Robert B. Wilson in April.

The company, based in Tacoma, Wash., also announced that executive vice president John W. Creighton Jr. will succeed Weyerhaeuser as president.

Weyerhaeuser, 61, a great-grandson of the company’s founder, has been president since 1966. He will be the first person in the firm’s 88-year history to serve as chairman and chief executive at the same time.

Creighton, 55, spent 12 years in real estate construction, development and finance before joining Weyerhaeuser to become general manager of the newly formed shelter group in 1970.

He was elected a vice president later that year and became an executive vice president in 1985, remaining president of a development subsidiary, Weyerhaeuser Real Estate Co.

Wilson, 72, has been chairman since 1976. He has been on the board of directors since 1966 and is a former president of Warm Springs Lumber Co., Equity Management Co. and U.S. Bancorp.
