Bellflower : 7 Candidates in the Running

Seven candidates will be running for two Bellflower City Council seats in the municipal election.

The incumbents, Bellflower real estate agent Mike Brassard, 51, and retired mailman Joseph E. Cvetko, 61, are seeking their second terms.

The challengers are Ronnie Lynn Hallett, 34, a welder; Ivan G. Spangler, 67, a retired gasoline station owner; Ray O’Neal, 50, an industrial engineer; James Earle Christo, 80, a tuxedo shop owner, and Randy Jay Bomgaars, 37, an elementary teacher in the Bellflower Unified School District.

Also on the April 12 ballot will be a measure that would establish a rent stabilization program for the city’s 45 mobile home parks. Cvetko said he supports the proposed ordinance and Brassard has stated his opposition.

Residents also will vote on two measures that would raise the transient occupancy tax from 6% to 9% and increase the business license tax on specified businesses.
