Fishing Report : Calico Bass Hitting Off Point Conception

While many sportfishing landings are fishing deep water for rock cod, calico bass have been providing anglers with a change of pace along the scenic coastline near Point Conception.

Skipper Merit McRae, who operates the Sea Hawk out of Santa Barbara’s Sea Landing, now makes regular trips since a successful outing last Friday.

All of his 18 passengers caught limits of calico bass in the 2- to 5-pound range by 10:30 a.m. En route back, McRae went into deeper water, where anglers spiced up their catches with red snapper and ling cod.
