Infringing on a Right

I would like to voice my support for Sue Ryan of San Diego, who was fired for refusing to submit to urinalysis to detect possible drug use. If such a policy of random search was instituted by the government, the country would doubtless be unified in its opposition; there would be cries of unconstitutional invasion of privacy and “Big Brother.” Yet, we sit quietly while private companies do the same thing.

Unfortunately, the citizen is hurt more in this way, for it infringes upon his right to work.

Of course, for such a scheme to monitor individual behavior to actually succeed, all companies would have to require it. And that is precisely what the citizens of this country need to be on guard against.
