LOMA LINDA, Calif. —
A 7-day-old Southern California boy received a Valentine’s Day gift Sunday that could save his life--a new heart.
Baby Christoffer, the son of a U.S. Air Force family, was given a transplanted heart during a five-hour surgery performed by Dr. Leonard Bailey at Loma Linda University Medical Center. He was born with hypoplastic left-heart syndrome, a lethal underdevelopment of the left side of the heart. The family requested that no other information be released, a hospital spokesman said.
