The Orange County Hall of Fame will be increasing its fold tonight, adding a few famous names to its register, and also honoring some not so famous names.

The four inductees into the hall who will be honored at a dinner tonight at the Disneyland Hotel are Rod Carew, Andy Messersmith, Eddie Morris and Carol Spanks.

Carew was a seven-time American League batting champion, who spent six of his 19 years in the major leagues with the Angels.

Messersmith is a former Western High School star who had 20-win seasons with both the Angels and the Dodgers.

Spanks, the Cal Poly Pomona softball coach, was a member of the four-time national champion Orange Lionettes from 1958-75.

Morris was a national and state champion sprinter while at Huntington Beach High in the late 1930s.

But some names not as recognizable in the world of sports also will be honored tonight.

Ralph Clark, former Orange County supervisor, will receive the Lifetime Achievement Award. Clark, who served on the Board of Supervisors for 16 years, is credited with leading the efforts to bring the Rams to Anaheim. He is the founder and past president of the Rams’ Booster Club.

Louis Unser will receive the Woody Dietch Award, given to a person associated with sports who has displayed courage and inspiration. Louis, 55, is the oldest of car racing’s Unser brothers. He was stricken with multiple sclerosis in 1964, which ended his racing career. Despite confinement to a wheelchair, Unser has built a successful racing engine development business, based in Fullerton, and serves as a racing management consultant.

Lew Cryer, former commissioner of the Pacific Coast Athletic Assn., and Jerry Doggett, who retired last fall after 30 years as an announcer with the Dodgers will also be recognized with Special Achievement Awards.

Bobby Hatfield, formerly of the Righteous Brothers, will receive the Ralph Clark Award.

Bruce Gelker, owner of the Saddleback Inn, and Irv Kaze, a publicist-administrator with the Raiders, will receive Good Guy Awards in the ceremony to be hosted by Ed Arnold, a television sportscaster. Funds raised by the banquet will benefit county youth groups.
