Rasmussen Gets 5 Goals, 1 Assist in Wichita’s 6-5 Win Over Lazers

Erik Rasmussen scored five goals and added an assist Sunday to lead the Wichita Wings to a 6-5 MISL victory over the Los Angeles Lazers.

The Wings, 15-17 overall, are 4-1 with four straight victories since Terry Nicholl became coach two weeks ago.

Rasmussen scored the first goal early in the second quarter. After the Lazers’ Paul Child tied it, 1-1, with 6:24 left in the half, Rasmussen assisted on Mark Evans’ goal with 5:43 remaining to give the Wings a 2-1 halftime lead.

Rasmussen scored again midway through the third quarter to put the Wings ahead, 3-1. Child’s second goal of the game made it 3-2 with 5:38 to go in the third period.

Early in the fourth quarter with two Lazers in the penalty box, Rasmussen scored his third goal of the game. He scored his fourth goal with 9:57 left to make it 5-2.

The Lazers added three six-attacker goals. Michael Collins scored with 3:55 to go and former Wing Chico Borja connected with 1:59 remaining to move the Wings to 5-4.

Rasmussen’s fifth goal came with 27 seconds left and put the Wings ahead, 6-4. Collins scored his second goal with 15 seconds remaining.
