The New York Post’s unions and management spent hours “beating figures to death,” but failed to reach an accord on concessions to save the newspaper as owner Rupert Murdoch’s threatened deadline to close it nears. “They seem unable to budge,” said Jerry Cronin, president of the drivers union, after the 2 1/2-hour meeting. “The union is very willing to negotiate, very willing to cut a deal. But I can’t give bodies, I can’t give arms and legs.”
