Lynwood : Gun Control Policy Urged

Share

The Lynwood City Council has approved the drafting of a resolution to ban the sale of machine guns and automatic weapons, and to tighten the control over purchase of shotguns and rifles.

The council voted unanimously Tuesday on a motion by Councilwoman Evelyn Wells to direct the city’s administrative staff to draft the resolution and send it to the Legislature and councils of Los Angeles County’s 84 cities.

“We want to go on record in support of gun control. We will also ask the other cities to prepare resolutions in support of gun control,” said Wells, who is leading a fight against gang violence in the city.

City Manager Charles Gomez said he expects the draft to be prepared and ready to mail within several days.

The council also instructed City Atty. Henry S. Barbosa to research the law and determine whether the city could pass its own gun control ordinance. Barbosa said he would but warned that he believed the Legislature has the power to impose such regulation.
