Aztecs Face BYU at Home

Share

After playing 8 of its last 11 games on the road, the San Diego State men’s basketball team will play five of its final six regular-season games at home. Tonight, the Aztecs will play host to seventh-ranked Brigham Young University in a Western Athletic Conference game at 7:30 in the Sports Arena.

The home setting is important for the struggling Aztecs (9-13, 2-8), who are coming off losses last week against New Mexico and Texas El Paso. SDSU has won six of its nine games this season at the Sports Arena.

BYU (21-1, 9-0) has a nine-game winning streak in WAC play and a five-game streak against the Aztecs.

“I think they will always be tough with (Coach Jim Brandenburg),” said BYU Coach Ladell Andersen. “They get a little better each time they play.”

Brandenburg returned Wednesday night after attending the funeral of his father, Charles Brandenburg, who died Sunday. He missed practice Wednesday but will rejoin the team for tonight’s game.

Juan Espinoza, an Aztec senior forward, has been listed as questionable for tonight’s game. Since he returned from last week’s two-game trip, Espinoza has been complaining of back spasms.
