West Hollywood : Center Foes to Step Up Efforts

Share

Organizers of an initiative campaign to prevent a proposed $25-million civic center from being built in West Hollywood Park said this week they will step up efforts to collect at least 3,000 signatures by July 25 in order to qualify the issue for the November ballot.

“We think we can get (the signatures) in the next two to three weeks,” said Tom Larkin, co-chairman of the Save Our Parks Alliance.

The group, with the aid of the Sierra Club, began collecting signatures three weeks ago with the aim of placing the initiative on the April 12 ballot.

However, only “about half” of the necessary signatures had been obtained by Feb. 9, the deadline for qualifying the initiative for the April ballot, Larkin said.

The City Council in January voted 4 to 1 to approve the park site for the long-anticipated civic center.
