A California contractor was ordered to pay $9.5 million to thousands of northwest Reno residents who claimed their homes were damaged by dust from a 47-acre development project. The jury’s award in the largest class-action suit in the county’s history found Seeno Construction Co. of Pittsburg, Calif., liable for damage to 1,933 homes caused by dust from the 72-home development. The suit was filed by 5,228 people who lived in the homes. They originally sought $36 million in damages to pay for the cost of cleaning their residences after 14 months of wind-blown dust beginning in March, 1984.
