Israel and Palestinians

Share

Day after day, Palestinians suffer and die at the hands of Israeli occupation. Yet, day after day, Palestinian national spirit burns bright and unbowed.

Kuttab’s stirring article makes the point clear. This oppressed people will not settle for less than any other upright, self-respecting people would settle for. Their struggle is for full national rights of self-determination, not for some half-measure or quarter-measure, as though our own American forefathers should have settled for some half-baked “autonomy” from the English king.

The logic is as clear as it is unavoidable. If national self-determination is good enough for Hebrew-speaking Israelis, or Spanish-speaking Mexicans, or English-speaking Americans, it darn sure ought to be good enough for Arabic-speaking Palestinians. And nobody, friend or foe, has the right to ask them for less.
