3 Robbery Suspects Throw Money Away, Land in Jail

Three men suspected of robbing a restaurant were arrested after they threw money out the window of their car in North Hollywood, Los Angeles police said Monday.

“It was raining money,” Detective Ed Pikor said. “We got most of it back, though.”

Police said the robbery occurred about 10:30 p.m. Sunday at a Wendy’s Old Fashioned Hamburgers in the 18000 block of Ventura Boulevard in Encino. Three men, one carrying a handgun, took $200 from restaurant employees, police said.

A few minutes after the robbery was reported, a description of the getaway car was broadcast to police, and two patrol officers spotted the vehicle entering the Ventura Freeway, authorities said. The officers tried to stop the car after it exited the freeway onto Laurel Canyon Boulevard, authorities said.

Police said the car then speeded up and its occupants threw the money out the window. Finally, the car pulled over and the officers took the occupants into custody, police said. Other officers were able to recover $181, police said.

Police said Forrest Davis, 29, Shawn Washington, 20, and Edgar Lockhart, 23, all of the downtown Los Angeles area, were arrested on suspicion of armed robbery. Each man was being held at the West Valley Jail in lieu of $16,000 bail.
