San Diego
A 68-year-old San Diego woman died late Monday night after losing control of her car while trying to avoid a stalled vehicle on Interstate 8 near Fairmount Avenue, authorities said.
Joan T. Day, of the 7000 block of Eldridge Street in Allied Gardens, was taken to Alvarado Hospital, where she died of internal injuries at 11:33 p.m., authorities said.
According to California Highway Patrol Officer Mike Collier, Day was traveling east over the Fairmount overpass about 10:15 p.m., when she swerved to avoid a stalled car in front of her.
Day lost control of her car, hit a semi-trailer truck, spun around and hit the stalled vehicle, Collier said.
Susan Ledieu, 45, of Mississippi, a passenger in Day’s car, suffered minor injuries. She was treated at UC San Diego Medical Center and released, authorities said.
The driver of the stalled vehicle, John Thompson of San Diego, suffered minor injuries.
The driver of the truck, Dallas Lee Bashor, 33, of Mountain Grove, Mo., was not injured.
No one was charged in the collision.
