Trojans (14-0) Tie School Record for Best-Ever Start

USC’s baseball team tied a 45-year-old record Tuesday with its 14th consecutive victory, an 11-3 win over Cal State Long Beach at Dedeaux Field, equalling its best start since 1943.

The Trojans can set the record for the best start ever with a win over Chapman today, their last game before they open Pacific 10 play Friday night against Stanford.

“I would really like to be talking about a lot of wins two weeks from now, once we have entered conference play,” USC Coach Mike Gillespie said. “But this whole experience has really served to aid everyone’s confidence.

“There has been so little talk among our coaches and players about the record, that in all honesty, everyone is just going about their business,” Gillespie added. “I think the guys are just anxious for conference play to begin--they wish they were playing Stanford tonight.”
