Acting ABC Superintendent

Charles Ledbetter will become acting superintendent of the 22,000-student ABC Unified School District in Cerritos effective March 25. Ledbetter, who has been in the district more than 30 years, will temporarily head the administration while a search is conducted to replace Supt. Kenneth L. Moffett, who resigned and will leave on the same date.

Moffett, who was superintendent for 15 months, announced his resignation in November. He is returning to the Lennox Elementary School District, where he served as superintendent for 10 years.

Ledbetter started his career in the district as a social studies teacher and currently is assistant superintendent of educational services. He has been a high school football coach, assistant principal, principal and director of personnel. Ledbetter will be replaced by Mara Clisby, who is an assistant to Moffett. Clisby, who has been in the district 15 years, formerly was principal of Gahr High School in Cerritos.

The seven-member ABC Board of Education voted unanimously for the personnel changes while it searches for a permanent superintendent. The board has selected R. E. Greene Management Services of San Gabriel to conduct the search at a cost not to exceed $12,500.

Officers of Hospital Guild

St. Mary’s Hospital Guild of Long Beach has elected a slate of new officers for the year. They are Alice Walsh, president; Riki Bauer, vice president; Helen Gault, recording secretary; Dorothy Fylpaa, corresponding secretary; Kitty Post, treasurer; Dorothy Brady, nominating chairman; and Patricia Hines, parliamentarian. They were introduced by outgoing president Jan Burrows during the guild’s annual welcoming luncheon for provisional members, and installed during a luncheon at the Long Beach Airport Marriott.

Arts Manager at Institute

Lindsay Shields, executive director of the Public Corporation for the Arts in Long Beach, was selected to participate in the Local Arts Agency Leadership Training Institute at Asilomar Conference Center. The four-day seminar, limited to 25 of the state’s most experienced and visionary arts agency managers, focused on economic development. The institute is part of the California Arts Council’s state and local partnership program.

Port Commerce Director

Steven R. Dillenbeck, director of properties for the Port of Long Beach, has been promoted by the Board of Harbor Commissioners to managing director of the port’s Commerce and Trade Bureau. In his new post, Dillenbeck will be responsible for the trade development, public relations and real estate divisions of the Long Beach Harbor Department. Before heading the port’s restructured and expanded real estate division, Dillenbeck spent nearly 20 years at the Port of Los Angeles, most recently as assistant executive director in charge of real estate, marketing and operations.

Miller, dean of academic affairs at Los Angeles College of Chiropractic in Whittier, has co-authored a chapter in a series of institutional research books titled “Evaluating Administrative Services and Programs.” The chapter focuses on integrating the technology and resources of each department within an educational institution to become part of the overall academic mission.
