Local News in Brief : Slayer of Driver Sought
Sheriff’s homicide detectives are seeking the killer of an 18-year-old Harbor City man.
The victim, Anthony Ray Maynez, was shot in the head last Friday as he drove his truck on 228th Street near Van Deene Avenue in an unincorporated area of Los Angeles County just west of the Harbor Freeway, said Sgt. Bryan Williams, a Sheriff’s Department spokesman.
The truck, with the fatally wounded Maynez at the wheel, struck a parked car, which crashed into two other parked cars, Williams said. A man whom residents saw running away from the accident may have been a passenger in the truck, he said.
Maynez died Sunday at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center from a single bullet wound to the head, Williams said. Authorities have not established a motive, he said, adding that anyone with information about the crime is urged to call sheriff’s detectives at (213) 974-4341.
